Course Descriptions (more classes will be added throughout the year)

 

Beginning Belly Dance:  First time in belly dance?  This primer class is where you start; understanding the movements that create the basics of all styles of belly dance - technique through isolations and muscle training.  This class focuses on the breakdown of basic belly dance steps.  This is a great non –impact workout.  Class goal:  Learn most common terminology, attire, posture, and introduction to the different facets of Middle-Eastern Dance.  Attire:  Work-out clothing or traditional yoga pants with hip scarf.  No prior dance experience required.  Dance shoes are optional.  We normally dance bare foot.  Tuesdays and Thursdays  6:30 – 7:20 p.m.

Intermediate Belly Dance:  This class teaches you a wider array of basic belly dance. It focuses on traveling steps, combinations, & turns commonly used in “Classic” Egyptian-style dance.  You will learn basic choreography of steps, which steps goes best with the music, why we do it & where it came from, break-downs & step-combinations that can improve your posture, flexibility, balance & grace.  Must have completed 1 full session of Intro to Belly Dance.  Attire:  Work-out clothing or traditional yoga pants with hip scarf.  Dance shoes are optional. We normally dance bare foot.                                 Tuesdays 7:30 – 8:20 p.m.

Children’s Belly Dance:  First time in belly dance?  This primer class is where you start; understanding the movements that create the base of all styles of belly dance- technique through isolations and muscular training. This class focuses on break down of basic belly dance steps.  This is a great non –impact workout. Class goal:  Learn most common terminology, attire, posture, and introduction to the different facets of Middle-Eastern Dance.  Attire:  Work-out clothing or traditional yoga pants with hip scarf.  Dance shoes optional. We usually dance bare foot.  No prior dance experience required.  Children 15 and under are only allowed to attend children classes only.

Mondays 5:30 – 6:20 p.m. Children 11 -up   Thursdays 5:30 - 6:20  Children 5 - 10

Props Class: This class is for the “experienced” beginner or intermediate dancer & above. Class begins with warm-up, technique and instruction on arm positions, fluid movements, tricks and tips to enhance the overall look and feeling of the prop as a dance partner.  This class is broken into 4 – week cycles.  Props: Veils (a minimum of 3 yards in length, maximum 45” wide silk veil), Sword, Isis Wings, Finger Zills, Fan Veil, Cane, twirling, and much more.  Must have completed 1 full session of Intro to Belly Dance.  Props are purchased by the student.  Attire: work-out clothing or traditional yoga pants with hip scarf.  Dance shoes optional. We normally dance bare foot.  Thursdays 7:30 – 8:20 p.m.

Body Sculpting Class:  Lose inches and weight, build lean muscle, and improve cardio endurance and over-all appearance.  Toning combines targeted body – sculpting exercise and high-energy NON-IMPACT CARDIO WORK. Moves and exercise create calorie-torching, strength-training; Students enhance their rhythm and tone all their target zones, including: arms, abs, glutes, and thighs.  Body sculpt is the perfect way to sculpt your body naturally while having a total blast.  Students must bring 1 -2 lb. hand weights.  Students my bring yoga mat if they choose. Mats are provided first come only.                   Attire: work-out clothing and tennis shoes.  No prior exercise experience needed.
